We are students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Architecture of the University of Maribor (FGPA UM), which is organizing the international competition “HOW STRONG IS THE BRIDGE?!” in May 2019 under the auspices of the Student Council of FGPA UM and Students’ Association of the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
The Student Council of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Architecture UM (ŠS FGPA UM) is a body of the Faculty or University and is defined by the Law on Higher Education, the Statute of the University and the Rules of the Student Council. It is the sole representative of the opinions and interests of all students of the faculty in it bodies, and in combination and in cooperation with the community of students, it conducts a program of student interest programs. Student council works “From students for students”, which means that members solve issues related to students, strive for the well-being of students and contribute to student-friendlier and higher-quality studies. In addition to participating in the bodies of the faculty and submitting and defending the student’s opinion, the Student Council prepares various student activities for students in order to ensure a high quality of subsistence time and promote socializing among students.
Our biggest project “How Strong Is The Bridge?!” is an international competition of students of technical professions in the building of the most solid bridge from spaghetti and hot glue, organized by students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Architecture UM. The competition will be held this year for the 10th consecutive year. In three days, competitors must build a bridge that transfers the maximum load. Before the beginning of the competition, the teams are familiar with the bridge data: its range, altitude above the road, altitude below the road, traffic profile and maximum bridge mass. The last day of the competition is intended to check the bearing capacity of the bridges constructed. Each bridge is gradually burdened until it crashes. The bridge with maximum bearing capacity will win. The project has been constantly developing and upgrading from its beginnings and is proud to all students and employees of FGPA UM.
